I changed two pages of my portfolio. These projects are more dynamic. Don't pay attention to type (its missing fonts on my home computer).
Please take a look at the image placement, layout.

If you are laying out images of spreads or pages or brochures somewhere like in portfolio, consider this dimentional effect that will make your work pop out of page and instead of plain static images you will have dynamic effect that will bring more interest to your work.

Poster for "Broken Illusion" project of FRONTLINE. Targeted specifically for reaching young adults that sank in violence, drugs, alcohol, depression, etc.
This is a poster for a play First Russian Christian Theatre, "Exodus"
This is a poster that was done for a Christmas Night Party at the Love of God IM.
Basically, outer glow is a drop shadow with out any distance or offsets. For the things like portfolio I never use drop shadow because I find that outer glow works much better, even in InDesign. So here is how I did it. Hope it helps! Enjoy!
